The phytoplankton is primary production of the food chain and important food source for aquaculture in the freshwater and marine. This study focused on phytoplankton structure and abundance in 2006. Based on the condition of the lake, the samples were collected at the
5 stations in the Moghan Lake. This study identified 35 phytoplankton taxa comprised of Bacillariophyta (16 genus), Chlorophyta (11 genus), Cyanophyta (4 genus), Euglenophyta
(4 genus) in the lake. Phytoplankton abundance varied between 2900 000 and 5300 000 cell/l-1. The Bacillariophyta Nitzschia sp. had been the high abundance almost 688 000 cell/l-1 in November. Then the abundance of Cyanophyta Microcystis sp. were measured almost 3200 000 cell/l-1 in August. The high abundance of Microcystis sp. Due to toxin could collapse the ecosystem. In addition, there is no study on the lake after 2006. The ecological study should be taken into account for getting of eutrophication trend, production potential and sustainable development.
